December News - 2011

Thanksgiving is over and immediately our planning turns to December holidays. Our school traditionally has a holiday program for all age groups and we do start working on the songs and details early to ensure a smooth program day. You may have heard from your child that we have a new music teacher. Mrs. Kimberly Malone has taken over the 1/2 hour per week music class that is programmed for every session here at Building Blocks. Mrs. Malone and the classroom teacher will be working to teach each class their part in our programs, which take place for the Step 1 on Tuesday, December 10 and for the rest of our sessions on Wednesday, December 21. Exact times will be coming home under separate invitation. I ask that you pay special attention to the times on these invitations so that you don't miss the particular program for your child.

I always delight in how much fun them children have with these programs. As time goes on, we will happilly hear the children sining the program songs during play time. I do get wonderful (and welcome) feedback from from parents after our programs. As enjoyable as these programs are to the families viewing them, they are also a very valuable learning tool for young children. I don't expect that we are creating any future Oscar winners, but I do know that it does boost confidernce in even the shyest child. Full preparation in what to expect during the performance usually takes the stress out of performing. A child learns that there is nothing to fear when getting up before a crowd when you are fully prepared. Most school districts promote public speaking at a very young age for this very reason. The instant reward of the audience response is a very nice feeling, which helps with this confidence boosting. In addition, skill in following directions, memorizing their routines or lines to songs and learning what it takes to put on a live production, are all valuable lessons. These programs also allow for a nice social time for our families. It is very important to foster the link between home and school starting at this young age.

I hope that you can revel in the joy at the end of the construction here are Andrews Hall. I know it has been a sometimes impossible situation. The children were usually oblivious to the noise and work going on around us and we were able to carry on relatively smoothly. I do commend our staff here at BBLC for making some difficult situations safe and pleasant for the children. We now look forward to the use of a beautiful building.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy some magical time with your special wee ones!

With warmest holiday wishes,

Joan

Thank You

Thank you to all who provided food for the classroon Thanksgiving Feast and to all the moms who helped heat and serve the food. The donations were very generous. The children enjoyed pretending they were Pilgrims and Indians while they ate their feasts

Thank you to all the grandparents who joined our T/H classes. It was very exciting to have mom-moms and pop-pops in our classrooms. It is clear to see the very special bond the children have with their grandparents.

Thank you for the ongoing donations of snack, paper towels, napkins, cups, juice etc. The donations are so very much appreciated. Our school is able to offer many "extras" and these donations help toward this end.

School Pictures

School photographs were taken with the usual efficiency and skill of Steve Imre of Premier Portraits. I am always amazed at his talent in amusing the children as he takes a quality photograph, getting cooperations from even the most determined three year old. Photo pachages will be sent home soon. Please let me know if there is any problem with you photo order.

Reminder

Please remember to listen to the TV, radio or visit the CB website (www.cbsd.org) to learn of school closings due to weather. Building Blocks does not announce by name but abides by the direction of Central Bucks School District for this information. Early dismissal sometimes becomes necessary due to the weather. Again, listen to the direction of CB for this information.
